Support Groups

Support groups connect people who are going through a similar experience. There can be many benefits to participating in a support group including:

  • sharing feelings and experience
  • drawing on the strength of the group when needed
  • learning coping skills

There are many different kinds of support groups. They can be led by a peer (someone with a similar experience), by a health care professional or by both. Some groups are more general in nature while others are more specific (newly diagnosed, young women, etc.). Some groups may operate casually on a drop-in  basis while others are more structured and require registration. Contact your local group to find out if it would be a good fit for you.
