August 14, 2006 – Willow Breast Cancer Support Canada is proud to announce the completion of the first comprehensive financial resource to help Canadians navigate through the financial challenges associated with breast cancer.

“We were receiving many support line callers asking about child care options, home help and insurance coverage while they were going through breast cancer treatment,” said S. Elaine Brown, Willow’s Executive Director. “It became apparent there was a void within the Canadian market for an easily accessible resource that could help answer these pressing questions. That’s when the concept for Coping with Your Financial Concerns When You Have Breast Cancer was born.”

Now complete and customized to each province’s health care system, Coping with Your Financial Concerns When You Have Breast Cancer (Coping) answers many of the commonly asked questions surrounding disability insurance, private and public insurance coverage and programs, alternative sources of income, child care, home help, transportation and tough decisions around end of life questions.

“Coping with a diagnosis and treatment is stressful enough. One should not have to spend any extra energy worrying and searching for answers to financial questions,” continued Brown. “Our mission at Willow is to empower the tens of thousands of Canadians affected by breast cancer. With the financial assistance from Sun Life Financial we created the first national resource to help anyone, anywhere in Canada, cope with their financial concerns when they have breast cancer.”
