Calling All Breast Cancer Heroes
Annual Children’s Write-in Contest Celebrates Inspiring Family Stories Across Canada
TORONTO, ON (February 26, 2008) – Willow Breast Cancer Support Canada announced today a call for entries for the annual My Hero Contest. Through this unique write-in contest, children across Canada whose family has been affected by breast cancer can share inspiring family stories and have a chance to win a financial contribution toward their future education.
The 2008 contest is open to all children across Canada aged eight to twelve. To enter the contest, children can go to www.BreastCancerHeroes.ca and submit a short essay telling Willow why they consider their family member, who has been affected by breast cancer, as their hero. Finalists will be eligible to receive one of five prizes, including a national grand prize of $3,000 toward their post-secondary education. Four prizes of $1,500 each will also be awarded regionally across Canada. The contest has been generously sponsored by Abraxis BioScience, Canada Inc.
“It is truly inspiring to share in the experiences of Canada’s real heroes, as seen through the eyes of our children,” says S. Elaine Brown, Executive Director, Willow Breast Cancer Support Canada. “The journey with breast cancer can be a very challenging time for any family, especially those with young children. The My Hero Contest gives those children a unique opportunity to share their feelings, and provides us all with a positive perspective in dealing with the disease.”
“We are truly honoured to provide support for Willow to deliver programs, such as the My Hero Contest, that help families come together and support one another,” says Lyndal Walker, Vice President, Abraxis BioScience, Canada Inc.
Entries for the contest will be accepted both online and via Canada Post until August 1, 2008. Mail-in entry forms can be printed off from the contest Web site. Winners will be announced at the end of September 2008.
