Canadian Kids Celebrate Family Stories Through
Write-in Competition
Fifteen thousand dollars available in educational funding to finalists across the country
Toronto, ON, May 17, 2007 - Willow Breast Cancer Support Canada announced today a call for entries into a unique children's write-in contest. Kids across Canada who are between the ages of eight and twelve years and who have a family member who has been affected by breast cancer can learn more about the contest and submit entries online at www.breastcancerheroes.ca.
To enter the contest, children will submit a short essay telling Willow why they think of their mother or other female family member as their hero. Finalists will be eligible to receive one of five prizes, including a grand prize of $5,000 toward their post-secondary education. Four prizes of $2,500 each will also be awarded regionally across Canada.
"Willow understands families face many challenges as they try to support each other throughout the breast cancer journey," says S. Elaine Brown, Executive Director, Willow Breast Cancer Support Canada. "No matter how emotionally troubling the time can be, we always encourage families to communicate with each other to the best of their abilities. This platform gives children the unique opportunity to share their feelings and relate uplifting messages about their loved ones dealing with the disease. We believe this will be an empowering experience for all who participate and we look forward to reading entries from across Canada."
Entries for the contest will be accepted both online and via Canada Post until August 10, 2007. Winners will be announced September 12, 2007. For more information on how to enter the contest or to access the full contest rules and regulations, visit www.breastcancerheroes.ca.
