It's truly The Breast Darn Show
Period!
Renowned Canadian talent Shaye and Camilla Scott perform
for the
sold-out crowd of 700, including breast cancer survivors, their families and
friends
Toronto, ON, May 17, 2007 - Tonight, in front of a sold-out crowd at the Fermenting Cellar in the Historic Distillery District, Joelle, Shayna and Melanie Segal and Annie Graham honoured their mothers as well as hundreds of others touched by the disease at the second ever Breast Darn Show Period. The event which featured live performances by Kim Stockwood, Tara McLean, and Damhnait Doyle from the Juno nominated band Shaye and Camilla Scott from the Tony award winning musical Mamma Mia set the stage for the grand finale - a dynamic original silks performance by Shayna Segal herself that had the crowd moved and on their feet applauding.
"This event has significant personal meaning for everyone who attends, including myself, my sisters and co-creator and friend, Annie Graham," explains Shayna, co-creator of the event. "The emotional connection is different for everyone as we honour each and every story and battle. Throughout the evening guests shared how much it meant to them to have a classy, uplifting celebration dedicated to them. To hear this makes me feel like we are making a difference in these lives which have had their share of challenges and sorrow. We just hope this event reminds them of just how special they are and encourages them to celebrate life now and always."
This year, all funds raised from the event will be donated directly to Willow Breast Cancer Support Canada, a national breast cancer organization that provides support and information to those affected by the disease.
"We wanted to support an organization whose mandate is to help people dealing with this terrible disease today," says Melanie, co-creator of the event. "In Willow we found this all important resource that assists Canadians coping with breast cancer by providing emotional support and information specific to each person's needs. We know first hand how valuable this type of service is to the thousands affected, so wanted to do our part to give back."
Above and beyond from the special performances, guests at the Breast Darn Show Period spent the evening bidding on a grand selection of fabulous items featured at the Silent Auction ranging from the latest Surround Sound System by Philips Electronics to Airfare and Vineyard Tour in France and hunting for a variety of diamond and jewelry treasures valued at $7200 at Breastfast at Tiffany's. The Boobini, the evening's signature cocktail, was met with rave reviews from all guests who sampled this mix of crème de cacao, raspberry vodka, cranberry juice and soda.
"A very special thank you goes to our Gold "DD Sponsors" Apotex Inc. and Helix BioPharma Corp, whose generous support has made this event possible," continued Melanie. "With their commitment, we have been given the opportunity to celebrate the remarkable strength of those who lives have been touched by this life-altering disease."
