Willow History
Willow's roots can be traced back to 1993 to the National Forum on Breast Cancer, which drew attention to the need for support and information that was timely and accessible. Following the conference, a group of women resolved to establish a resource service that would meet such needs. Willow was officially incorporated in 1994, thanks to the following group of women who helped build and shape the organization:
- June Callwood
- Sally Armstrong
- Sharon Hampson
- Sandy Wise
- Diane Richler
- Pat Kelly
Why the name Willow?
The willow tree is a fitting symbol of the strength and courage that women and men display on their journey with breast cancer. The willow tree:
- Is strong and flexible - it will bend and not break in a storm
- Has deep roots
- Has bark that has healing properties
